About Council
Sikkim Science & Technology Council is an autonomous body,
a registered society, under the Societies registration Act, 1860. The
Council was constituted in 1996 to advise the State Govt. on policies
and measures for promoting S & T in the State and to implement the
policies & plans of the State Govt. more effectively and to utilize
the funds received from various Central & State Govt. agencies. Prior
to that , Sikkim Science Society was mobilizing few S&T activities at
State level. The secretariat infrastructure for the council was
provided in 1997. The council has been registered as an
autonomous body in 1997.

Environmental Information System (ENVIS)
is a plan programme of the Ministry of Environment and Forest
Government of India. ENVIS is a decentralized system using the
distributed network of data bases to ensure integration of
national efforts in environmental information collection,
storage, retrieval and dissemination to all concerned including
policy planners, decision makers, research workers and the
public......

Bioinformatics Center:It has been said
that “The ultimate goal of bioinformatics is to discover
the new biological insights as well as to create a global
perspectives from which unifying principles in biology can be
discerned.” The
significance of bioinformatics ranges from gathering and

Remote Sensing:GIS
is a very powerful tool, and can be used to conduct a variety of
quantitative analyses. It is the 'glue' that holds all the data
together, and which permits the display, analysis, and

Patent Information Centre: Sikkim is
the eighth PIC in India which has been established under the
aegis of the State Council of Science and Technology for Sikkim
at Gangtok Technical Information Forecasting and Assessment
Council (TIFAC), Department of Science & Technology, GOI, New

Plant tissue culture
is an aseptic culture of cells, tissues, organs, and their
components under defined physical and chemical conditions in
vitro. The cells or tissues are obtained from any part of the
plant like stem, root, leaf etc which are encouraged to produce
more cells in culture and to express their totipotency (i.e.
their genetic ability to produce more plants).
