Patent Information Centre (PIC):
The Patent Information Centre (PIC), Sikkim State Council of Science & Technology (SSCS&T) is established in the year 2001, supported and funded by Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India, New Delhi. SSCS&T is the Nodal Agency of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the state vide Notification No. 15/DST/2013 Dated 20/03/2013. PIC is the wing dealing with all IPR activities of SSCS&T. PIC, SSCS&T is working for the promotion and streamline of the Intellectual Properties (IP) in the state through different legal, scientific and technical instruments of IPR. The main objective of the centre is to create awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) because IPR is one of important topic globally.

Objective:

To create awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), especially Patents, Geographical Indication (GI),etc. To facilitate filing and searches of related IPR to the universities, industry, government departments & R&D institutions. Children awareness IPR at student level. Sensitize on IPR to the rural innovator, block level officers. To aware IPR potential for commercialization through various means viz. writing article in daily local paper, radio talk, workshop, seminar, IPR camps, brochure, palm plates, flex display, etc.

Summary of the progress as per the objectives:
PIC, SSCS&T has organized five IPR workshop and seminar in the colleges and universities targeting the students, lecturer & researcher. The centre has published more than 15 IPR articles in the local paper of the state for awareness creation to the mass. One more GI potential item (Cardamom Seremna variety) has identified and added in the process of GI registration. Patent filing of eco-friendly lamp is under process and another item for trademark registration. Eight IPR cell has been created in the different district govt. colleges of Sikkim as per the objective.
